IAI unveils TAHR tactical vehicle for Germany’s special forces
Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries unveiled the new TAHR tactical vehicle for Germany’s Special Forces Command — Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) — in Altensteig-Wart, Germany. The first pre-production prototype was presented ahead of schedule at the annual KSK conference, The Jerusalem Post reports.
A platform for rapid deployment
TAHR was created on the basis of the Israeli ZD all-terrain platform, developed by IAI’s ELTA division. The vehicle is manufactured in Germany by Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS), a joint venture between ELTA and German defense contractor FFG.
The vehicle was designed as a lightweight platform suitable for air transport. At KSK’s request, its design was adapted to integrate weapons and sensors, as well as to improve crew situational awareness. TAHR’s dimensions allow two such vehicles to be transported inside a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. After landing, crews can quickly prepare the vehicles for missions.
Up to 200 vehicles
TAHR will be supplied to KSK in two variants — combat and support. Both modifications are based on an existing all-terrain platform that is already in service. FTS refined the design in line with KSK requirements, for which rapid deployment and mobility in difficult conditions are important.

KSK commander Brigadier General Andreas Kühne said that the unit needs high mobility and different transport options depending on the situation, mission and terrain. According to him, TAHR is a vehicle suitable for airborne deployment and use in any terrain.
In October 2025, FTS concluded a framework agreement with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, the German army’s procurement body. The document provides for the delivery of up to 200 vehicles.
IAI CEO Guy Barlev called Germany a strategic partner in developing joint defense capabilities. ELTA CEO Dror Bar said that the early presentation of the first vehicle demonstrates the effectiveness of industrial cooperation with German partners.
