Jamaica welcomes UN Security Council resolution on Morocco’s autonomy plan — MyJoyOnline

In New York, United States, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith welcomed the adoption by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797, MyJoyOnline reports.

Joint communiqué

The respective position was set out in a joint communiqué that Johnson Smith signed with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita.

The communiqué states that the resolution fully supports the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating and conducting negotiations based on the Moroccan Autonomy Plan. The document also says that genuine autonomy under Morocco’s sovereignty could be the most feasible solution.

Talks in New York

According to the publication, the ministers’ talks took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The communiqué welcomed Morocco’s diplomatic efforts to achieve international consensus and support for the Autonomy Plan under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Nasser Bourita and Kamina Johnson Smith also agreed to continue political consultations between Morocco and Jamaica and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest.
