Andy Burnham, the likely next prime minister of the United Kingdom, will not attend a gala reception in London marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

His spokesperson explained that the politician declined the invitation due to a scheduling conflict. About 2,500 guests are expected to attend the event, including government officials, diplomats, military personnel, and business representatives.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump made harsh remarks about Burnham, calling him “the mayor of some city” and “extremely liberal.”
