India launches three cases against Nestle over baby food — Channel NewsAsia
India’s food safety regulator said that a sample of Nestle infant formula did not meet requirements for biotin, or vitamin B7. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) reported legal action against the Swiss company, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Biotin content requirements
The regulator tested a sample of so-called follow-on formula, a product for infants. According to the FSSAI, a re-analysis showed that the product did not comply with established Indian requirements for biotin. The agency did not specify whether it would demand the product’s withdrawal from sale.
Nestle said that its products “fully comply with all applicable regulations” and that the company would continue to work closely with the regulator. At the same time, the manufacturer did not separately comment on the finding of non-compliance concerning the specific sample.

Cases over labeling
The FSSAI also reported filing cases concerning two other Nestle baby food products — NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 and Lactogen Pro 1. The regulator believes that claims on their labels are misleading and violate current requirements. In total, three separate cases were filed against the company.
Nestle India said that it had again provided the authorities with a detailed response regarding the wording on the labels. According to the company’s position, these claims are factual and supported by scientific literature, while the labels themselves had previously been approved by an FSSAI expert committee.
India is one of Nestle’s key growth markets. In the year ending in March 2026, total sales of Nestle India products amounted to $2.4 billion, while dairy and nutrition products, including infant formula and food, accounted for one-third of sales. After news of the regulator’s actions, Nestle shares in India fell by nearly 3%.
