Iran attacked an airbase with American personnel in Kuwait - Bloomberg

Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries and damaged U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. efforts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran, according to Reuters.

Over the past 24 hours, the situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated again following Iran’s missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military and technical personnel are stationed. According to Bloomberg, a Fateh-110 missile was fired at the facility, which was intercepted by Kuwait’s air defense system, but debris fell onto the base.

According to preliminary reports, several people sustained minor injuries, including military personnel and contractors. At least two U.S. MQ-9 Reaper strike drones, each costing approximately $30 million, also sustained serious damage.

Sources familiar with the details of the attack report that air defense systems were able to intercept the missile before it struck critical infrastructure, but debris still caused localized damage. U.S. Central Command has not yet officially commented on the incident. The Fateh-110 missile used in the attack is a short-range ballistic missile capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 500 kilograms, making it dangerous even if intercepted.

According to analytical sources, since the start of the conflict, Iran has already fired over 1,850 ballistic missiles at the region, indicating a prolonged escalation of tensions. The strike on Kuwait itself took place at a time when Washington was discussing the possibility of extending the ceasefire with Iran, which has been in effect since April but remains unstable due to mutual strikes by the parties.

The White House confirms that no decision on further steps was made following the meeting in the Situation Room, although Donald Trump had previously stated his readiness to make a “final decision” regarding the agreement. At the same time, Pentagon reports note that the conflict has already led to significant losses and the depletion of U.S. stocks of precision-guided weapons, including JASSM-ER and Tomahawk missiles, as well as the THAAD, Patriot PAC-3, and SM-3 Block IIA air defense systems.

Pentagon chief Pete Hagset stated that the United States is ready to resume military strikes against Iran if diplomatic efforts do not lead to a new agreement.

Earlier, Iran and the U.S. exchangedaccusations following the latest strikes.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant progress in negotiations with Tehran, noting that as part of a potential agreement, Iran could transfer its highly enriched uranium to the United States.

Iran’s Supreme Leader has bannedthe transfer of enriched uranium.
