Iran launched a drone attack on an airport in Kuwait
Several people were injured at Kuwait International Airport following a drone attack that the country’s authorities have linked to Iran. Commercial flights have been temporarily suspended.
Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, a spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, reported the incident.
“Several enemy drones” attacked the passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport, seriously damaging the building and injuring several people, he said.
According to officials, the strike damaged the airport’s infrastructure and halted commercial flights.
It is noted that the airport had only recently resumed operations after a prolonged shutdown due to hostilities.
At the same time, the military situation in the region has escalated: according to the U.S. military, strikes were carried out against Iranian targets in response to shelling of Kuwait and Bahrain.
U.S. Central Command stated that some of the missiles and drones were intercepted or lost control in mid-air.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for its part, announced strikes on facilities linked to the U.S. Navy, as well as a response to U.S. actions in the region.
The situation in the Persian Gulf remains tense amid mutual attacks and military statements from both sides.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries among personnel and damage to U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. efforts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with his inner circle, although he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.
