Iran has announced yet another closure of the Strait of Hormuz

On June 20, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israel’s continued military operations against Lebanon. Tehran also accused the United States of violating the ceasefire agreements and warned of possible further steps.

Tehran stated that the decision to close the strait is a response to alleged violations of commitments by the adversary.

“This is the first step in response to the enemy’s breach of obligations. Should the aggression continue, further measures will be taken to compel the enemy to fulfill its obligations,” the statement said.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the key routes for global oil trade, through which a significant portion of energy supplies from the Persian Gulf region passes.
