Spain topped the list of countries where people love beer the most

Spain topped the ranking of countries where the largest share of the adult population regularly drinks beer. According to Statista Consumer Insight, 45% of the country’s adults do so.

Brazil and Vietnam tied for second place, each at 44%. In Italy, 42% of respondents drink beer regularly, and in Thailand, 40% do.

At the same time, Spain is not the leader in terms of production volume. In 2025, China produced approximately 354 million hectoliters of beer, retaining its top spot globally. The United States came in second with approximately 175 million hectoliters.

Brazil, Mexico, and Russia also made it into the top five producers.

At the same time, the global beer market is facing changing consumer habits, an aging population, and declining production in a number of countries, including Germany, Spain, and Japan.

In Germany, the number of breweries is declining amid falling beer consumption. By 2025, there were 1,415 breweries left in the country—9% fewer than six years ago—and demand for beer continues to fall, especially among the younger generation.

King Charles III of the United Kingdom, along with Queen Camilla, visited the Hall and Woodhouse Badger Brewery in Blandford Forum. The brewery is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
