Spain has extradited a Ukrainian national to Germany in connection with a case of espionage on behalf of Russia

Spain has handed over to Germany a Ukrainian citizen suspected of spying for Russia and monitoring a company that supplies drones to Ukraine. He was detained in late March and subsequently extradited at the request of German law enforcement authorities. This was reported by the German public prosecutor’s office.

Germany has officially confirmed the arrest of 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen Serhiy N. following his extradition from Spain, where he was detained in late March at the request of German investigators. The arrest warrant was executed by an investigating judge of the Federal Supreme Court on May 15.

According to the investigation, the man is suspected of gathering intelligence for Russia, specifically regarding a German company that manufactures and supplies drones, including to Ukraine.

Also involved in the case is 45-year-old Romanian citizen Alla S., who was detained in Germany, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Investigators believe she also participated in gathering data on the company and private properties associated with its owner.

According to German law enforcement, Sergey N. has been systematically monitoring the company’s activities since December 2025, mapping its facilities, and conducting covert filming. From March onward, he was allegedly joined by an accomplice who also gathered information and photographed the entrepreneur’s home.

Investigators suspect that the data obtained could have been used to plan further actions against the target, including possible sabotage or even an assassination attempt. Both detainees have been charged with espionage.

Journalists have identified the businessman involved in the case, but his name and the company’s name are not being disclosed for security reasons. He himself stated that he had taken protective measures in advance due to the risks associated with his activities in the field of defense technologies.

The company that was the target of surveillance previously supplied Ukraine with kamikaze drones and is now focused primarily on the production and supply of components for unmanned aerial vehicles. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

A number of German banks have frozen the accounts of Russian citizens, demanding proof of their right to permanent residence in Germany.
