A new heat wave with temperatures reaching up to 45 degrees will hit Spain

Spain is set to be hit by its third heat wave of the summer in the coming days. Meteorologists warn that temperatures in some regions could reach +45°C, with the hottest conditions expected in the middle and end of next week.

The abnormal weather will be caused by an influx of hot, dry air from North Africa. According to forecasts, the heat will last at least several days.

Spain’s national meteorological agency, Aemet, has announced the approach of the third heat wave of the summer. According to forecasters, temperatures will begin to rise gradually as early as Saturday. The most significant rise in temperatures is expected starting Tuesday, July 22, with the peak of the heat wave forecast for Thursday. Aemet notes that the heat wave is currently expected to last at least until Thursday, but does not rule out the possibility that its official duration may be extended if new weather data confirms this.

The highest temperatures are expected in the southeastern part of mainland Spain. There, temperatures may reach +45°C in some places and even exceed that mark in certain areas. According to forecasters, this weather is linked to an atmospheric blocking pattern that allows hot, dry air from North Africa, along with dust, to spread across nearly the entire territory of Spain and the Balearic Islands.

It is this air mass that will cause a sharp rise in temperatures over the next week. The meteorological agency also noted that this summer has already become one of the hottest on record. According to Aemet, the average temperature in the country from June 1 to July 15 was 3.3°C above the climatological norm. This is 0.4°C higher than during the same period in 2024, which until now was considered a record-breaking heatwave alongside 2015.

Experts are urging residents and tourists to closely monitor weather warnings, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, drink plenty of water, and follow the recommendations of local safety authorities during this extreme heat. This was reported by Euronews.

The record-breaking heat wave that swept across western Europe in late June caused more than 10,000 deaths. According to official data, the highest number of deaths was recorded in the countries most severely affected by the extremely high temperatures.
