Israeli official proposes buying Greek islands as a sanctuary for Jewish people
Israeli politician Avri Steiner has suggested that the government consider purchasing uninhabited Greek islands to create a secure refuge in case of emergencies or war. This proposal represents a potential new strategic approach to safeguarding the Jewish population.
Steiner, a member of the “Kahol Lavan” party and part of the board of directors of Himnuta, a subsidiary of the Jewish National Fund, stated that Greece has about 40 uninhabited islands that could be equipped with necessary infrastructure. He proposed using the Jewish National Fund’s resources to finance such acquisitions.
He also emphasized the need to negotiate with the Greek government to establish a legal framework that would eventually grant Israel full sovereignty over these islands.
The Jewish National Fund is known for supporting the development of land and infrastructure in Israel. Its subsidiary, Himnuta, manages strategic investments in real estate and land resources.
This idea to acquire Greek islands as a backup refuge illustrates Israel’s innovative security strategies and could provide a way to ensure national safety amid regional instability.
Future progress depends on agreements between the Israeli and Greek governments and backing by relevant funds. This initiative opens new doors for securing the country’s long-term security.
