Yle calculator estimates petrol costs at a price of 3 euros per litre — YLE News

In Finland, YLE News has published an online calculator that helps estimate drivers’ annual petrol costs and compare them with expenses if fuel prices rise.

Users can enter a car’s annual mileage, its fuel consumption in litres per 100 kilometres, and the price of petrol. The tool shows the estimated annual cost and the difference between the current and changed fuel price.

Calculation example

In the example provided in the calculator, annual petrol costs amount to 1,980 euros. At a price of 3 euros per litre, this amount rises to 2,730 euros. The difference is 750 euros per year.

Yle also notes that fuel consumption depends significantly on the type of vehicle. A small passenger car may consume around 6 litres per 100 kilometres, while a van consumes from 9 to 12 litres.

According to the polttoaine.net service, the average price of 95-octane petrol in Helsinki as of 30 September 2026 was 2.176 euros per litre. YLE News reports that petrol prices, and diesel fuel prices in particular, have reached an exceptionally high level in Finland.
