Qatar seeks to revive US-Iran talks — Anadolu Agency
Qatar said its mediators have been discussing proposals to resume talks between the United States and Iran for nearly two weeks. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said the mediators are moving between different capitals in an effort to make progress.
According to Anadolu Agency, Qatar is mediating together with Pakistan. Al-Ansari said Doha had received assurances from US administration officials that Washington seeks to reach an agreement.
Mediation between Washington and Tehran
Al-Ansari said regional solutions and international understanding on protecting waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, are necessary for stability. He also warned that placing waterways under the sovereignty of one state and using them as a weapon would create a dangerous precedent.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the important routes for energy supplies and global trade. According to the agency, the United States recently struck facilities in Iran amid a deadlock in negotiations over navigation in the strait, despite a memorandum of understanding signed by the parties in mid-June.

Tensions in the region
Iran retaliated by attacking, it claimed, US military facilities and equipment in Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia. Some of the attacks caused civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, the agency reported.
According to Anadolu Agency, the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, and Tehran reported more than 3,000 deaths. Iran also claimed that its attacks resulted in the deaths of Americans and Israelis.
On September 21, the US State Department warned US citizens about the difficult security situation in the Middle East and the possibility of unpredictable escalation. US embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Jordan issued similar warnings.
