The death toll from the flooding in Nepal has risen to 359
The death toll from massive flooding and landslides along the border between Nepal and Chinese-controlled Tibet has risen to at least 359.
According to Nepalese police, this death toll was recorded as of 5:00 p.m. local time. At the same time, authorities are warning of the risk of further flooding in the Bhote Koshi River area.
Satellite data from China indicates that the riverbed may have been blocked. A lake has formed near the site of the flash flood, which could pose an additional threat to downstream communities.
Local residents and rescue workers have been urged to remain in safe areas and stay away from the riverbanks.

In Nepal, more than 270 people were killed, and hundreds more were reported missing as of August 27 after a powerful torrent of water, ice, mud, and rocks traveled more than 170 km down the Bhote Koshi River valley.
