Cyprus to increase contribution to scouts to €75,000 and allocate €100,000 for camps
The state contribution to the Cyprus Scouts Association will increase from €50,000 to €75,000. Another €100,000 was approved for scout camps, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said on September 2 during a ceremony at the presidential palace, reports Cyprus Mail.
Awards for 110 scouts
During the event, 110 young people received the Republic Scout Award, the movement's highest distinction. It is awarded for completing a demanding period of training, service and responsibility.
Christodoulides said that the government would continue to support the scout movement. According to him, financial support for scouts is not an expense but an investment in the country's future.

The role of the scout movement
The president, who was previously a Cub Scout and later an Air Scout, called his participation in the movement one of his parents' wisest decisions. He noted that scouting promotes the development of altruism and solidarity at a time when, in his words, alienation and individualism prevail.
Christodoulides also noted the scouts' involvement in responding to natural and man-made disasters. The scout movement in Cyprus was founded in 1914 on the initiative of Charalambos Nicolaides, a physical education teacher at the Pancyprian Gymnasium.
The Scouts Association said the awards recognize the efforts of the 110 recipients while also underscoring the importance of non-formal education and volunteering in shaping active and responsible citizens.
