Chinese tankers carrying Iraqi oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz amid U.S. statements regarding an agreement with Iran

Chinese tankers carrying Iraqi oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz amid U.S. statements regarding an agreement with Iran

Two Chinese supertankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in a long while, transporting approximately 4 million barrels of Iraqi oil. This came after optimistic statements by U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance regarding the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran soon.

This was reported by Reuters.

The tankers Yuan Gui Yang and Ocean Lily used the Iranian route through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which immediately impacted global oil markets.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the war could end “very quickly.” According to him, the day before, he was “an hour away from deciding to attack” Iran, but he abandoned that plan after receiving a new proposal from Tehran.

“Iranian leaders are begging for a deal,” Trump said, adding that if negotiations fail, a new strike could be launched in the coming days.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance also said that Washington is currently in a “pretty good position” regarding negotiations with Iran. At the same time, he acknowledged that the negotiation process is being complicated by internal disagreements within the Iranian leadership.

Against the backdrop of these statements, the price of Brent crude oil fell to $110.16 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Tehran continues to make tough demands to reach an agreement. The Iranian side insists on a complete cessation of hostilities, including in Lebanon, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region, the payment of reparations, the lifting of sanctions, the unfreezing of frozen assets, and the end of the naval blockade.

As journalists note, Iran’s new demands are virtually identical to the previous proposal, which Donald Trump had earlier called “garbage.”

Following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian authorities intend to take full control of the undersea communication cables laid along the bottom of this strategic waterway.

Iran has threatened to enrich uranium to 90% in the event of a new U.S. strike

Britain has called on Iran to fully open the Strait of Hormuz and restore international shipping, which has been operating intermittently since the situation escalated.

Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not consider the war with Iran to be over.

Official Tehran refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.

Iran rejected Trump’s claims about transferring uranium to the U.S. and accused him of manipulation.
