Britain has authorized the import of fuel made from Russian oil — Reuters
The United Kingdom has decided to allow the import of diesel and jet fuel produced from Russian oil outside of Russia. The new rules were introduced amid rising fuel prices and supply disruptions caused by blockades in the Strait of Hormuz. The decision is open-ended but provides for periodic review and possible changes or revocation.
This was reported by Reuters.
As noted on the website of the UK Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, the import authorization is provided by a general trade license issued on Tuesday, May 19, exempting certain goods from sanctions restrictions.
The license, which takes effect on Wednesday, May 20, allows for the import of fuel refined from Russian oil in third countries, specifically in India and Turkey. Companies are required to maintain appropriate records.
The license is open-ended but is periodically reviewed by the Minister of the Interior, who has the right to amend, revoke, or suspend the document at any time. Separately, the United Kingdom issued a temporary license valid until January 1 of next year for the maritime transport of liquefied gas and related services under the sanctions rules regarding Russia.
As a reminder, global oil prices continued their rapid rise on the morning of May 18 amid a sharp escalation of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
