The study, covering 36 major airports across 21 countries, revealed that Chinese citizens exhibit the highest spending per passenger of all nationalities. The recovery in spending is outpacing the growth in passenger numbers post-pandemic. Their most frequently purchased items include sweets (27%), local products (17%), and luxury goods (12%). High expenditure was also noted among travelers from India, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The findings highlight the significance of Chinese travelers to retail sales in Asian airports and could inform new marketing strategies and expanded duty-free offerings in the future.
