The maritime conflict between China and the Philippines has escalated
A new clash between Chinese and Philippine military forces has occurred in the South China Sea. During the incident, the two sides collided with their boats and then began striking each other with oars and poles. Both countries have already exchanged accusations and offer differing accounts of what happened.
A clash between Chinese and Philippine military personnel occurred near Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea. During the incident, the two sides’ boats collided, after which the conflict escalated into a physical confrontation. According to reports by Reuters and the Chinese publication Global Times, the military personnel used oars and poles. The Chinese side claims that it was the Philippine boat that first entered the disputed area and rammed a Chinese Coast Guard patrol vessel.
Beijing also claims that the Philippine military was the first to resort to dangerous actions. At the same time, the Chinese Coast Guard stated that after the incident, they allowed the injured Filipino soldier to be evacuated “on humanitarian grounds.”
Meanwhile, the Philippines categorically rejects these accusations. Philippine officials stated that it was Chinese law enforcement officers who attacked their servicemen and called Beijing’s claims false. “The Philippine military did not initiate the conflict,” emphasized representatives of the Philippine side, commenting on the incident.
Following the clash, China stated that it would continue to conduct patrols in the Nansha Archipelago and called on the Philippines to refrain from actions in the disputed waters. Separately, Chinese state media reported that the Philippine military was filming from aboard Vessel No. 57 and transmitting the footage via the Starlink system. China also claimed that the released videos were allegedly selectively edited and do not show the full picture of the events. The Philippine side has not yet commented on these claims regarding the video recordings.

Second Thomas Shoal has remained one of the hottest flashpoints in the South China Sea for many years. Several countries lay claim to this territory, but the most intense disputes are between China and the Philippines. Incidents like this occur regularly in the region and are often accompanied by mutual accusations between the parties, according to Reuters and the Global Times.
China has announced the creation of an international organization dedicated to cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. Twenty-nine countries have already joined the new organization, including Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
