North Korean leader Kim Jong Un calls for strengthening artillery — Korea Herald

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, during visits to major defense industry enterprises, called for providing the country’s artillery forces with the most concentrated and destructive capabilities. This was reported by the Korea Herald, citing the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Inspection of defense enterprises

According to KCNA, Kim Jong Un visited weapons production enterprises from Wednesday to Friday. He was accompanied by senior officials, including Pak Jong Chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.

The North Korean leader said that artillery must possess massive and multifunctional offensive capabilities and carry out deterrence and warfare missions.

Tasks for industry

Kim Jong Un also stressed that the defense industry must play a greater role in implementing the ruling party’s course toward building the most powerful army. The tasks set include increasing the level of artificial intelligence use in offensive and defensive weapons, strengthening the armor and automation of artillery systems, and improving production conditions.

Shin Jong-woo, secretary general of the Korea Defense and Security Forum in Seoul, suggested that Kim Jong Un visited factories producing 600 mm and 240 mm multiple-launch rocket systems, as well as drones.
