Lithuania is establishing a separate unmanned forces unit
Lithuania is forming a new Autonomous Remote Unmanned Operations (ANBO) unit within its Armed Forces. The new unit will combine capabilities in unmanned aviation, electronic warfare, and counter-drone systems, specifically for conducting deep strikes.
Citing a report by Interfax-Ukraine, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense announced this on Wednesday.
What is the mission of this unit?
It is reported that the main task of the unit, named the Autonomous Remote Unmanned Operations Unit (Autonominiu nuotoliniu bepilociu operaciju jungini, ANBO), is to "consolidate and centralize the unmanned aviation capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and other military structures, as well as to develop the capability to conduct long-range strikes using unmanned systems."
In addition to strike and reconnaissance drones, the unit will also be responsible for counter-drone and electronic warfare assets.
"This is a new stage in strengthening the capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. We are centralizing resources, providing a clear structure and a clear direction for development: reconnaissance, offensive and defensive operations, and the development of capabilities for deep strikes," commented General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
