Mátyás expects European funds for Hungary to be released soon
Hungary’s newly appointed Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that Budapest is very close to reaching a compromise with Brussels on unblocking financial aid from the European Union.
The head of the Hungarian government announced this on Thursday, May 28, during a video address on Facebook.
On that day, Magyar arrived in Brussels on an official visit, where a series of important talks with European Commission leadership is scheduled to take place. The main goal of the trip is to unfreeze EU financial funds, access to which was completely restricted for Hungary during the previous government led by Viktor Orbán due to systemic violations of the principles of the rule of law and European legislation.
The Prime Minister emphasized that while he does not wish to make premature predictions, the parties are currently in the final stages of concluding an agreement. According to Mádár, Budapest and Brussels have already reached full agreement on most key and fundamental issues, and the agenda now includes resolving several technical aspects related to strengthening anti-corruption controls.
As a reminder, Ukraine and Hungary have agreedon a new round of negotiations.
Earlier, the Hungarian government commented on the massive attack by Russian drones on Zakarpattia, during which the region’s critical infrastructure was targeted. Budapest described the situation in the border region as extremely alarming and announced that it was preparing urgent countermeasures.
