Mágyar Declared the Collapse of Orbán's Government Following Szijjártó's Resignation
Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar responded to Péter Szijjártó’s decision to leave parliament, stating that this points to serious problems within the current government.
Szijjártó headed the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for many years in Viktor Orbán’s governments and was considered one of his closest political allies.
The Hungarian prime minister noted that “the complete collapse of the former ruling party, Fidesz, is proceeding at an ever-faster pace.”
“Péter Szijjártó, the former foreign minister who previously represented foreign interests, today officially announced that he is leaving politics to become the head of a Chinese company for which he had previously secured massive Hungarian state subsidies. The difference from the previous situation will be that from now on, Péter Szijjártó’s ‘work’ will be paid for not by the Hungarian people, but by his actual employer,” Magyar wrote.
He added that “leading Fidesz politicians are abandoning the sinking ship one by one,” and that the Fidesz party itself is now officially on the path to disintegration.
“Meanwhile, Viktor Orbán, who steered his political community like an iceberg, is posting on social media about the constitutional crisis, but at the same time has fled to the United States with his family and oligarchs to watch a game,” Madyar added.
Mátyás wrote about this on Wednesday on his Facebook page.
Mátyás stated that Orbán’s oligarchs were preparing to flee abroad.
Hungary’s nearly former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that he was relinquishing his parliamentary seat. However, he expressed his willingness to continue leading the Fidesz party if the party convention supports his candidacy.
As a reminder, the Hungarian government has accused the social media platform Facebook of political bias against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
