Mavroyiannis claims first place in Cyprus polls — Cyprus Mail

In Cyprus, former presidential candidate Andreas Mavroyiannis said that polls that reached him show him in first place ahead of the 2028 presidential election. At the same time, he said he would decide by the end of the year whether to run again, Cyprus Mail reports.

Poll data

Speaking on Omega TV, Mavroyiannis said he knew of only one official poll whose data had been disclosed through a leak at DISY. According to him, he had also separately received the results of four more polls, and all of them showed him in the lead.

The politician called these data a reason for reflection. He added that the daily support he feels he receives from people may indicate growing support for his candidacy.

Decision on participation

Mavroyiannis said that before making a final decision, he would discuss it with his associates and people who supported him during the previous campaign. He confirmed that his team aims to make a decision by the end of the year.

Contacts with political forces

Speaking about relations with AKEL, Mavroyiannis described his contacts with the party's general secretary, Stefanos Stefanou, as very good and said they hold regular informal meetings. He stressed that AKEL is a large party with its own procedures and that one should not create the impression that he is putting pressure on it.

Mavroyiannis also said he could not confirm reports of an alleged veto by the Alma party on his candidacy. At the same time, he said he was open to cooperation with Alma and other political forces, except for the far right. He called former DISY leader Averof Neofytou a strong opponent and mentioned the high standard of their previous televised debates.
