Mexico News Daily publishes satire about the “cheese war” between Chiapas and Oaxaca
The satirical El Jalapeño section of Mexico News Daily published a fictional story about a “cheese war” between the Mexican states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. The publication explicitly warns that all El Jalapeño materials are satire, not real news.
The cheese ball plot
According to the plot, cheesemakers in coastal Pijijiapan allegedly made a 1,611-kilogram ball of quesillo. The authors present it as an attempt to surpass a fictional record from Reyes Etla in Oaxaca, where a 636.2-kilogram cheese ball was allegedly created in 2024.

Fictional details
The satirical text claims that 15,500 liters of milk were used for the product, while winding the cheese on a special metal platform took four hours. The fictional account also includes comments by cheesemaker Roberto Morales, mentions a possible 2,000-kilogram “response” from Oaxaca, and describes the unwinding, portioning, and consumption of the cheese in Pijijiapan. According to the plot, such a response could have been prepared ahead of the upcoming festival season.
