Fathom duo in Australia plays nine concerts in 12 hours in record attempt
Australian dream-pop duo Fathom played nine concerts in 12 hours across New South Wales and Canberra in an attempt to set a Guinness World Records record for the most performances. Vocalist Kate Giergis and keyboardist Jackson Italiano finished their final 15-minute set in Canberra 15 seconds before the allotted time expired.
This was reported by ABC News Australia. For the record attempt, the duo had to perform more than eight sets lasting at least 15 minutes at venues located at least 50 kilometres apart. They also had to be in localities with populations of more than 15,000, with at least half having more than 100,000 residents.
The musicians' route passed through Singleton, Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Penrith, Lithgow, Bathurst and Goulburn, ending in Canberra.
Delays on the road
Fathom travelled most of the route in a tour minibus. Between Penrith and Lithgow, the duo flew by helicopter over the Blue Mountains; between Lithgow and Bathurst, they travelled by car; and a charter flight was planned between Bathurst and Goulburn.

Traffic in Sydney was complicated by an accident on the M4 motorway. After performing in Penrith, the musicians arrived early at the helicopter base, but the aircraft had been deployed to fight fires in the Blue Mountains. As a result, the duo was delayed by 30 minutes.
During the next flight from Bathurst to Goulburn, the aircraft's right propeller malfunctioned. According to Italiano, the pilot provided the musicians with a jet, but the delay put them about an hour behind schedule. Unimpeded traffic on the road helped them reach the Canberra venue on time.
Fundraising and certification
During the tour, Fathom raised money for the mental health support charity Beyond Blue. According to the duo's members, they raised at least $2,200. Half of the funds are planned to be directed to Beyond Blue, while the other half will go to the bands that supported Fathom during the tour.
To certify the attempt, the musicians must provide Guinness World Records with evidence that at least 10 people were present at each venue and confirmation from at least two witnesses who accompanied them throughout the trip. Italiano also recorded the journey on a body camera. After collecting the evidence, the duo will submit an application, the review of which, they say, may take several months.
