Latvia's defense minister cuts short his visit to Ukraine due to a Russian drone
Latvia's Defense Minister Andris Spruds has decided to cut short his visit to Ukraine and return home.
Spruds wrote about this on his X.
The reason for this decision was a dangerous incident involving a drone that crossed the Latvian border from the Russian Federation.
News of the Latvian Defense Minister’s visit to Ukraine broke on March 24. During his working trip, the minister held a series of important meetings aimed at strengthening the Ukrainian army’s defense capabilities.
During the visit, Spruds, in particular, announced the supply of additional CVR(T) combat reconnaissance armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
This equipment is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during reconnaissance operations on the front lines.
The official’s continued stay in Ukraine became impossible due to the need for his personal presence in Riga to coordinate a response to the provocation.
The minister promptly informed the public of the change in plans via social media.
“Due to the incident that occurred, I am cutting short my working visit to Ukraine and returning to Latvia,” the minister wrote on his X microblog.
The violation of a NATO country’s airspace by a Russian aircraft requires immediate analysis and appropriate decisions at the state level.
The Latvian side is currently examining all the circumstances of the drone’s flight path and determining its type.
As a reminder, the Lithuanian prime minister confirmed that a Ukrainian drone crashed in the country.
Also, debris from a Russian drone that exploded on Latvian territory was found in Latvia.
