The U.S. Secretary of Defense made a strong statement in support of Ukraine
The Pentagon has confirmed its commitment to preserving Ukraine’s defense capabilities. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset stated that Washington is committed to ensuring Ukraine retains the ability to stand up to Russia. He emphasized that the U.S. will continue to seek opportunities to provide necessary defense assistance.
According to DRM News, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset made this statement following his address at the first plenary session of the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum.
According to Hagset, Washington has already provided Kyiv with significant support while simultaneously encouraging European allies to increase their own contributions to aid Ukraine.
“Where we could help Ukraine, we did. Where we could give Europe the opportunity to do more, we did,” said the Pentagon chief.
He noted that European countries have recently significantly stepped up their support for Ukraine, and Ukraine itself has demonstrated high efficiency in utilizing the resources provided.
“Europe has stepped up its efforts, and Ukraine has demonstrated equal, if not greater, efficiency in this process,” Hegset emphasized.
The head of the U.S. Department of Defense also stressed that the U.S. is committed to ensuring Ukraine maintains the ability to resist Russian aggression.
“We want them to be able to defend themselves, and we will find a way to ensure our assistance,” the U.S. Secretary of Defense stated.
Earlier, Hegset explained the U.S. position on funding for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington may reduce its military presence not only in Germany but also in other European countries, including Italy and Spain. He sharply criticized NATO allies, stating that some of them “have done nothing to help” the U.S., and did not rule out a review of the American military presence in Europe.
