China's urban rail transit made 2.94 billion passenger trips in August

China's urban rail transit made 2.94 billion passenger trips in August. The data were released by the country's Ministry of Transport, ECNS reports.

Network in 54 cities

Urban rail transit systems operated in 54 Chinese cities. In total, they included 348 lines with a combined length of 11,888.5 kilometers. During the month, 3.84 million train services were operated, while the number of fare gate entries totaled 1.75 billion.

The average daily number of trips decreased slightly compared with July but was 2.1% higher than in August of the previous year.

Breakdown of transport

Metro and light rail systems in 43 cities made 2.84 billion trips. Monorail, maglev lines and suburban rapid transit routes in 18 cities carried 88.28 million passengers.

Tram systems and automated guideway transit systems in 19 cities made 10.71 million trips. In August, 23.2 kilometers of new lines were put into operation in the country. The only new route was the first phase of Line 7 of Changchun Rail Transit.
