The Foreign Ministry is awaiting Poland's response following the damage to the UPA monument
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to an incident in Poland, where Grzegorz Braun, leader of the “Confederation of the Polish Crown” party, damaged a monument to the UPA. The monument is located in the village of Białystok in Hrubieszów County, Lublin Voivodeship.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “political fringe elements in Poland have come up with nothing better to do than to wage war on graves.”
“At a time when a real war is raging, posing an existential threat to both Ukraine and Poland. This is shameful and immoral behavior that can evoke nothing but shame and condemnation from any normal person,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Ukraine expects the competent Polish authorities to conduct a proper legal assessment of these actions, restore the damaged grave as well as other Ukrainian memorial sites in Poland, and prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Ukraine consistently advocates for the same principle on both sides of the border: Ukrainian memorial sites in Poland and Polish memorial sites in Ukraine must be protected. No one has the right to turn the memory and respect for the deceased into a circus act to achieve their political goals,” the Foreign Ministry added.

The granite obelisk honors the memory of Ukrainians who died in battles against the Soviet NKVD. It stands in the village of Białystok. It was here in 1946 that the fallen Ukrainians were buried, so the monument was erected directly on the site of the mass grave.
The memorial has been in place since the 1990s, and in its current form—a stone engraved with the names of the deceased—since 2019. The obelisk has been vandalized several times. In the summer of 2026, it was spray-painted, and the arch that adorned the stone was carved out. The Ukrainian Embassy officially condemned this act of vandalism at the time.
Recently, the monument suffered yet another act of vandalism, and the police are searching for those responsible.
