South Korea’s Foreign Ministry eases warnings for areas of Thailand and three countries
South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted special travel advisories for certain areas of Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Ethiopia due to reduced security and health risks, The Korea Herald reports.
Areas near Thailand’s border with Cambodia
The special advisory was lifted for seven provinces near Thailand’s border with Cambodia. The travel advisory level for these areas was lowered to Level 1, which calls for caution.
Special advisories are a temporary mechanism separate from South Korea’s standard four-level advisory system. They are used for immediate and short-term risks for up to 90 days, with the possibility of an extension. Such an advisory urges citizens to cancel or postpone non-essential travel.

Warnings near Laos and Myanmar remain in place
At the same time, special advisories for areas around border crossing points near the borders with Laos and Myanmar will remain in effect. The ministry explained this by the risks of widespread employment scams and the possible forced detention of South Korean citizens in the region.
A special advisory was also lifted for part of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, as no active Ebola cases were identified there. Similar restrictions will be lifted in certain areas of Azerbaijan and Turkey, where no new drone or missile strikes were reported amid broader conflicts in the Middle East.
