Security measures tightened at Fairford air base in the UK — Asharq Al-Awsat

Security measures have been significantly tightened in recent days at RAF Fairford air base in Gloucestershire, southwest England. Access to the facility was restricted by checkpoints, while armed police officers and emergency service vehicles were present nearby, Asharq Al-Awsat reports, citing a Reuters witness.

US Air Force response

A US Air Force spokesperson said the service was aware of reports regarding the situation at the base but would not comment on specific protective measures. According to the spokesperson, the 501st Combat Support Wing and other US wings based in the United Kingdom remain vigilant and will take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and their families.

The US Air Force also noted that it constantly assesses various factors that determine the introduction or adjustment of protective measures for military facilities, personnel, and their families.

Previous statements regarding the base

In July, the United Kingdom stated that its armed forces were ready to defend the country from any attack. This came after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned against allowing US bombers to fly from Fairford.

RAF Fairford air base was used to conduct operations against Iran during the conflict in the Middle East. An archived Reuters photo dated March 17, 2026, shows a US Air Force B-1 bomber landing at the base.
