Airfares in Cyprus rose by about 5% against the EU trend — Cyprus Mail
In Cyprus, prices for passenger air transport in August 2026 were about 5% higher than a year earlier. At the same time, airfares fell by 0.4% year-on-year on average across the European Union, Cyprus Mail reported, citing Eurostat data.
Inflation in Cyprus
The harmonised inflation rate in Cyprus stood at 5.2% in August, the third-highest figure among EU countries. Higher inflation was recorded only in Romania, at 6.3%, and Lithuania, at 5.6%. The average inflation rate in the European Union was 3.2%.
The largest year-on-year increases in passenger air transport prices were recorded in Greece, at 16.3%, and Ireland, at 14.4%. At the same time, flight prices declined in ten EU countries. The sharpest drop was recorded in Slovakia, at 61.2%; in other countries, declines ranged from 15.8% in Spain to 0.9% in Lithuania.

Package holidays are becoming more expensive
Package tourist trips in the EU became 3.2% more expensive year-on-year in August, the same as the overall inflation rate in the bloc. Prices for such trips increased the most in Belgium, by 16.2%; Portugal, by 14.3%; Sweden, by 12.8%; Lithuania, by 12.3%; and Romania, by 11.9%.
Package holiday prices declined only in Estonia, Spain, Italy and Ireland. In Estonia, prices fell by 21.1%; in Spain, by 5.2%; in Italy, by 4.8%; and in Ireland, by 0.4%.
Eurostat calculates these indicators based on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices. Data on package trips cover travel, accommodation, meals and organised excursions, while changes in costs are recorded when a tour is purchased rather than during the trip itself.
