Oev and TechIsland to sign technology and skills memorandum in Cyprus — Cyprus Mail
In Cyprus, the Employers and Industrialists Federation Oev and the technology organisation TechIsland will sign a memorandum on cooperation in technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and skills development on September 18, 2026. The document is also intended to support the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy, Cyprus Mail reports.
The signing ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 on Friday. It is expected to be followed by speeches from Oev president George Pantelidis and TechIsland president Valentinos Polykarpou.
Areas of cooperation
The memorandum is intended to strengthen interaction between the two organisations in the development of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional skills. Oev represents employers and industry, while TechIsland is a technology organisation.
After the signing, the parties are expected to outline the goals and areas of the partnership in greater detail. The agreement is being concluded amid efforts by businesses and industry associations to improve the competitiveness of Cyprus’s economy through wider adoption of technology and innovation.

Initiative after the fires
TechIsland is also implementing the €2 million Wildfire Initiative, announced in the summer after the devastating fires of 2025. According to the organisation, more than 60 companies and private individuals raised around €2 million within several days to help affected residents and communities.
As TechIsland reported, the fires covered more than 100 square kilometres of forest, destroyed 191 homes in 15 villages and claimed the lives of two people. The programme evolved from an emergency fundraising effort into long-term work on fire prevention, preparedness, early detection and recovery.
Among the announced measures is a €450,000 contribution towards the purchase of small fire engines for 45 community councils. The funds cover 20% of their cost under a state subsidy programme. TechIsland also supported the free SafeIsland CY mobile application, which allows users to report signs of fires, receive nearby alerts and use an interactive map with fire safety information.
