In the Rostov region, former prisoners who were being prepared for deployment to the war have escaped

In Russia’s Rostov Region, reports have emerged of the escape of several former prisoners whom the Russian military was allegedly preparing to send to fight in the war against Ukraine. According to preliminary reports, after their escape, the men may have begun attacking local residents.

At this time, information regarding the number of escapees, their whereabouts, and the circumstances of any potential crimes has not been officially confirmed.

According to available information, the escape occurred after lunch on August 26. The individuals in question are former prisoners whom the Russian military was allegedly transporting to participate in the war against Ukraine.

Afterward, reports of possible attacks on civilians began to circulate in the region.

Initial reports indicated an attack on a taxi driver. However, preliminary information suggests the driver may have survived.

Later, reports began to surface about the possible murder of a local resident. The circumstances of this incident are currently unknown, and there is no independent confirmation of the information.

Amid reports of possible attacks, local residents were urged to stay indoors and exercise caution.

At the same time, it is still unknown exactly how many people have escaped, where they might be, and whether they are actually involved in the attacks being reported on social media.

Similar cases of escaped, recruited former prisoners have been recorded previously in the Rostov region. In May 2025, 10 former prisoners—who had been recruited into the Russian army and were being prepared for deployment to Ukraine—escaped from a military training ground in the region.
