Cars set on fire in Palestinian villages in the West Bank — Jerusalem Post

In the Palestinian villages of Ras Karkar and Deir Abu Mash'al near Ramallah, in the West Bank of the Jordan River in Israel, tractors, cars and structures were set on fire overnight into Monday, and graffiti was painted on buildings. The Jerusalem Post reported that far-right Jewish extremists are suspected of involvement in the attack.

Messages mentioning revenge, a holiday and the commander of the Israel Defense Forces' Central Command, Major General Avi Bluth, were left on the walls. Residents of Deir Abu Mash'al said the attackers set a car on fire and attacked a house where a family was staying, attempting to set the home ablaze.

Police launch an investigation

The Judea and Samaria District Police opened an investigation following reports of vehicle arson and graffiti in Ras Karkar and Deir Abu Mash'al. Law enforcement officers confirmed some of the information received.

Police investigators and forensic experts planned to arrive at the scenes accompanied by Israel Defense Forces troops to collect evidence and testimonies. At that time, there was no information about identified suspects or detentions.

Other reports of attacks

Before dawn in Sinjil, a group of far-right activists, Palestinians claimed, damaged a local resident's olive harvest and stole the collected olives. Videos also circulated on Palestinian social media, whose authors claimed that Israeli military personnel were nearby, assisted the activists and covered their actions.

Several days earlier, far-right activists, the publication reported, carried out an attack on the village of Rantis: they set three cars on fire and painted graffiti on the walls of homes. Israeli military personnel then arrived in the village and called the police and investigators from Israel's General Security Service.

The Israel Defense Forces increased their presence in the West Bank ahead of the Sukkot holiday, assessing the coming days as particularly tense. One of the stated tasks of the troop deployment was preventing clashes and manifestations of Jewish extremism.
