NATO Is No Longer Training Ukrainian Troops in Drones and Electronic Warfare — Business Insider
On August 17, it was reported that, as part of a new training program for Ukrainian military personnel in Poland, training in drone operation and electronic warfare had been canceled. Western instructors acknowledged that Ukrainian military personnel have significantly more combat experience in these areas and are now training their allies themselves.
This decision is explained by the fact that the actual combat experience of Ukrainian soldiers in these areas significantly exceeds the level of training of specialists from NATO countries. This refers to the multinational training mission Operation Legio, led by Norway, which is deployed at Camp Jomsborg in southeastern Poland.
Currently, the allies are focusing on basic combat training, infantry tactics, and trench warfare, while the curriculum on modern technologies is being adapted with the involvement of Ukrainian specialists. Instructors from Estonia, Finland, and Sweden are working side by side with Ukrainian experts, learning from their experience in using these technologies in full-scale warfare.
“Ukrainian instructors are always present at the camp as experts on drones and electronic warfare. They share insights on how Russia and Ukraine do or do not use these capabilities. This allows allies to learn daily from Ukrainian experts on issues that the Alliance has not paid sufficient attention to since the end of the Cold War,” said Task Force Legio commander Brigadier Atle Molde, according to Business Insider.
