Unidentified drone strikes near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi — Gulf News
On Sunday, May 17, an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle attacked a civilian infrastructure facility near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi.
This was reported by the international publication Gulf News.
The strike caused a fire in an external power generator located outside the plant’s inner perimeter in the Al Dhafra region.
So far, none of the region’s militant groups has officially claimed responsibility for the attack.
Local authorities in Abu Dhabi quickly confirmed that a fire had broken out in the immediate vicinity of the strategic nuclear facility.
Officials acknowledged that the drone attack caused the generator to catch fire but clarified that the plant itself remains completely safe.
Thanks to the rapid response of emergency services, the fire was contained, averting any threat to the power units.
According to preliminary data from the relevant agency, the incident resulted in no casualties or injuries among the staff.
The UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the incident did not affect the safety of the nuclear power plant or the readiness of its key systems.
All power units are operating normally, and the overall level of radiation safety in the Al Dhafra region has not changed.
The United Arab Emirates government has urged citizens to rely only on verified sources of information and not to spread rumors or unconfirmed reports.
Experts note that this airstrike near the nuclear power plant occurred against the backdrop of a fragile political truce between the U.S. and Iran. This is not the first such escalation in the region in recent times.
