"An unfavorable peace for Ukraine would pose a threat to all of Europe," said Petr Pavel

Czech President Petr Pavel stated that forcing Ukraine into an unfavorable peace would have long-term consequences for the security of all of Europe. Support for Ukraine is not charity, but a strategic investment in the stability of the European continent.

Czech President Petr Pavel made this statement during the opening of the 21st GLOBSEC security forum in Prague on May 21.

The Czech leader emphasized that Ukraine’s fate directly affects the future security architecture of Europe.

“Our historical experience of relations with Russia also shapes our conviction that Ukraine’s fate is a central issue for European security. Supporting Ukraine is not charity. It is a direct investment in Europe’s security. Because if Ukraine succeeds, Europe will become safer. If Ukraine is forced to accept an unfavorable peace, we will all live with the consequences of that decision for decades,” Pavel stated.

The Czech President emphasized that Ukraine today is not only defending Europe from Russian aggression but is also shaping new approaches to defense and warfare.

According to Pavel, Ukraine’s experience is already transforming European military strategy and the defense industry.

He noted that Ukrainian military personnel and engineers are demonstrating a high level of adaptability by implementing innovative technologies directly on the battlefield. Specifically, this involves the active use of drones, electronic warfare systems, and modern methods of organizing defense production.

Pavel also noted that he and Finnish President Alexander Stubb had concluded that, at present, it is Europe that needs Ukraine more.

The Czech president called Ukraine one of the most effective defense players in Europe.

He highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian society, the combat experience of the army, and the rapid development of defense technologies, which are already influencing the military thinking of European states.

Czech President Petr Pavel also stated that peace in Europe is no longer “a given” and requires active protection and support from the continent’s nations.

Russia’s accusations of alleged Baltic involvement in strikes on Russian territory may be part of Moscow’s preparations for a possible opening of a second front against NATO countries

Russia has launched large-scale nuclear exercises to demonstrate its strength to Ukraine’s allies, increase pressure on NATO, and divert attention from its own failures on the front lines. This is the conclusion reached by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially announced the start of large-scale military exercises involving strategic nuclear forces, which will take place from May 19 to 21, 2026

Ukraine reacted sharply to the joint nuclear exercises between Russia and Belarus, citing violations of international treaties and a threat to global security. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Moscow is effectively turning Belarus into a nuclear staging ground near NATO’s borders.
