The Netherlands Is Ready to Host a Special Tribunal on Russia
The Dutch government has expressed its willingness to host a full-fledged Special Tribunal on Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine on its territory.
According to the head of state, during the conversation, he briefed the Dutch prime minister on the consequences of the latest massive Russian strikes on Ukraine and emphasized the importance of further strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
“Our partners have expressed their readiness to take steps to protect lives, and air defense remains one of the key areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands,” Zelenskyy noted.
The President also thanked the Dutch government for its decision to establish a Special Tribunal to adjudicate Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine.
“This decision will make it possible to hold Russia’s top political and military leadership accountable specifically for the crime of aggression, and not just for its consequences,” the head of state emphasized.
In addition, the parties agreed on a schedule for future meetings, during which they will continue discussions on cooperation in the areas of security, defense, and international justice.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this following a phone call with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
As a reminder, on May 15, 37 states signed an expanded partial agreement on the establishment of a steering committee for the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. One of the key outcomes of the negotiations was granting the tribunal’s prosecutor the authority to issue indictments against members of the Russian Federation’s top leadership, including the head of state, the head of government, and the head of the foreign ministry.
