Latnik proposed linking tariffs to investments
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Latnik supports a mechanism under which foreign companies could receive exemptions from the new tariffs based on their investments in U.S. chip manufacturing.
According to a Politico report, such a scheme is intended to stimulate the expansion of semiconductor production within the United States.
At the same time, Washington is considering the possibility of phasing in the new tariffs. However, the details of this scheme could still change significantly in the coming weeks or months.
