Team Global Express resumes deliveries to regional Tasmania

Team Global Express has resumed parcel deliveries to a number of areas in the Australian state of Tasmania following complaints from local residents. Previously, the carrier stopped delivering online orders directly to several localities, although customers had paid for home delivery.

Parcels had to be collected in Hobart

As ABC News reports, the restrictions affected Miena, Liawenee, Waddamana, Levendale, Tunnack, Brady's Lake, Bronte Park, Derwent Bridge, Lake St Clair, Maydena and Colebrook. Residents received SMS messages giving them seven days to collect their shipments from the company's depot at Hobart Airport.

The company explained its previous decision by operational difficulties for drivers, including dangerous road conditions in winter. At the same time, Miena resident Michael Walls said that a trip to the depot in Hobart and back would take him four hours.

Meeting with a Miena resident

Team Global Express executive chair Christine Holgate flew to Tasmania and met with Walls in Miena. According to him, she confirmed that the decision to stop deliveries had been reversed and said the company would resume service to all areas that had previously been removed from its routes.

Walls also said that Holgate apologised to customers and explained that the decision had been made by local management in Tasmania without the knowledge of the national office. According to him, she acknowledged that the reason was not driver safety issues, as previously stated, but cost cutting.

A Team Global Express spokesperson confirmed the reversal and said Holgate was grateful to Walls for raising the issue. Tasmania's Consumer Affairs Minister Guy Barnett welcomed the restoration of services, stressing the importance of reliable freight and parcel delivery for rural communities and small businesses.
