Iran's new leader has threatened revenge for his father's death

Iran's new leader has threatened revenge for his father's death

Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated that the country will seek revenge for the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other Iranians who were killed as a result of U.S. and Israeli strikes. He called this “the nation’s demand” and promised to punish those responsible.

His statement came after the conclusion of mourning ceremonies in Iran and almost simultaneously with a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened to destroy Iran if an attempt were made on his life.

A written statement by Mojtaba Khamenei was released on Saturday by Iranian state media. In it, the new Supreme Leader declared that Tehran would not leave the deaths of his father and other Iranians unanswered. “We swear to avenge your blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars and to punish the criminal murderers. This revenge is the demand of our nation, and it will certainly be carried out,” Khamenei said.

He also added that the struggle, in his words, will not end regardless of who is in power. “Whether we are here or not, soon everyone seeking freedom around the world will fulfill a part of this divine mission,” the statement reads.

Mohtaba Khamenei’s statement came after the conclusion of the several-day funeral for his father, Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. According to information cited in the report, 86-year-old Ali Khamenei was killed in late February during a strike on one of his secret bunkers in Tehran. Mohtaba Khamenei himself did not appear in public for a long time after that attack. According to U.S. intelligence, he also sustained serious injuries during the same strike.

His latest address marks his first high-profile statement since taking the helm of the Iranian regime. Meanwhile, tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high. Just a few hours before Mojtaba Khamenei’s statement, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the United States would launch a devastating strike against Iran if the Iranian government or entities affiliated with it attempted to assassinate him.

The article also notes that Iranian officials have repeatedly called for the assassination of the U.S. president. During the funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei, some attendees held large banners calling for an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Against this backdrop, experts do not rule out a further escalation of tensions between Iran, the U.S., and Israel, as the rhetoric from all sides is becoming increasingly harsh. This was reported by CNN.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran had approached Washington with a request to resume the negotiation process. According to him, the U.S. side agreed to continue the dialogue.

Israel has shared intelligence with the U.S. regarding Iran’s new plan concerning Trump.

Israel is waiting for a signal from Trump to strike Iran.
