Fuel restrictions hit Milan, Venice, Bologna and Treviso airports due to supply shortage

Milan, Venice, Bologna and Treviso airports have imposed fuel supply restrictions for commercial flights until 9 April due to a shortage of fuel at operator Air BP Italia.

The restrictions apply to Jet A1 fuel—aviation kerosene used in civil aviation. The situation became known from official pilot notifications (NOTAMs), stating that refueling for airlines contracting with Air BP Italia will be limited.

To ensure essential services continue to operate, a priority refueling order has been introduced: fuel is first allocated to medical flights, government officials, and flights longer than three hours. According to airport operators in Venice, Treviso, and Bologna, over 2000 litres per aircraft are being allocated.

Air BP Italia is a fuel operator supplying Jet A1 aviation kerosene to civil aviation across several Italian airports. The shortage has prompted temporary restrictions and the need for careful flight planning.

As a result, these limitations may affect flight schedules and airline operations until the fuel supply situation improves. Normalisation of deliveries is expected after 9 April.

This development is significant as it may disrupt air travel in the affected regions, though the prioritisation system aims to maintain critical flights. The situation should stabilise once full fuel supplies resume.
