Trump's teleprompter operator made a fortune off his speeches

The teleprompter operator for U.S. President Donald Trump made over $100,000 in profits by betting on the words the politician uttered during his public speeches, according to ABC.

According to journalists, the man had advance access to the speech transcripts, which allowed him to predict the content of Trump’s statements and successfully profit from corresponding bets. It was precisely this that enabled him to reap significant financial gains.

According to sources, the president’s technical aide, Gabriel Perez, who has managed Trump’s teleprompter since 2016, is in talks with federal regulatory agencies.

He is accused of using his insider knowledge of the president’s speeches to win over $100,000 in this manner. The trader placed bets on the Kalshi prediction market.

Specifically, Kalshi notified its regulator of suspicious activity in the “Mentions” section, where users can bet on whether certain words, phrases, or topics will be mentioned during a public speech.

“Our oversight team promptly identified these transactions and referred the information to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and we are cooperating with and assisting the regulatory authorities,” said Bobby DeNo, head of Kalshi’s enforcement division.

Following this report from ABC, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt told reporters that Perez had been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

According to her, she discussed the matter with Trump, and he considers it a “disgrace” and personally decided to place the cameraman on unpaid leave.

Levitt also said she was not aware of any other White House staff members who had engaged in similar conduct.

“The White House has strict ethical standards that we expect all staff and officials to adhere to,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle emphasized in an interview with ABC News.
