Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the European Union is facing an energy crisis. He also called for the lifting of sanctions and restrictions imposed on the Russian energy sector.
He made these remarks in a video posted on Facebook.
Orbán said he spoke on Saturday, April 4, with his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico, as “the situation in Europe is critical.”
“A serious energy crisis is looming, gaining momentum with each passing day. The European economy is threatened by an energy shortage and, as a result, rising prices,” the Hungarian prime minister said.
He noted that the danger is inevitable, and the only way to avert this threat is "for the European Union to replenish its oil and gas reserves from all possible sources, in the largest possible volumes and as quickly as possible."
"Every day counts. That is why we demand that Brussels immediately lift the sanctions and restrictions imposed on the Russian energy sector," Orbán stated.
He also reiterated that “Brussels must force President Zelenskyy to immediately open the Druzhba oil pipeline.”
"And those plans that propose abandoning Russian energy sources and switching to Brussels’ energy policy—which is more expensive and unaffordable for families—must be rejected and dismissed," he added.
Orbán is setting a trap for the future prime minister — Politico.
As a reminder, Vance will visit Budapest ahead of the Hungarian elections amid support for Orbán.
Orbán also issued a sharp demand to Ukraine.
