Pakistan and Indonesia agree to strengthen defense cooperation
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, on September 14, Chief of Defence Forces and Pakistan Army Commander Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali. Munir reaffirmed Islamabad’s intention to strengthen ties with Jakarta, Dawn reported, citing Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Defense engagement
According to ISPR, the participants discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defense cooperation.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the existing contacts between the militaries of the two countries and reaffirmed their intention to further develop cooperation. In particular, they discussed professional training, defense cooperation and joint exercises.
As ISPR noted, Munir also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening longstanding and brotherly relations with Indonesia, primarily in the defense and security spheres. According to the agency, Admiral Ali praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and their contribution to regional peace and stability.

Previous contacts and Lebanon
In January, Indonesian Defense Minister retired Lieutenant General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin also met with Munir in Rawalpindi. At that time, the Indonesian side expressed its desire to expand defense ties with Pakistan in several areas.
At that meeting, according to ISPR, the sides discussed matters of mutual interest, changes in the regional and global security situation, and opportunities to deepen bilateral defense cooperation. Pakistan stated its intention to develop lasting defense relations with Indonesia based on shared values, mutual respect and converging strategic interests.
On the same day, Munir received Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad al-Hajjar, who was in Pakistan on a two-day visit. According to ISPR, they discussed the regional security situation, bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation in the security sphere. Al-Hajjar also noted Pakistan’s contribution to regional peace and stability, as well as the professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistani military personnel in the fight against terrorism.
