Pashinyan explained the transformation of relations between Yerevan and Moscow

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a briefing on May 11 that he disagrees with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s use of the term “break” to describe a possible “rupture” in relations between the two countries.

The head of the Armenian government emphasized that interstate relations should not be compared to family life.

According to the Armenian leader, he has already discussed the issues of EU integration and participation in the Eurasian Economic Union directly with the Russian leadership.

Pashinyan stressed that Yerevan does not plan to make a radical choice between the two vectors until there is a real legal or practical need to do so.

“We confuse international relations with marriage. Armenia is guided by international logic in its international relations. We are full members of the EAEU. And as long as we are members of the EAEU, we fully participate in all decision-making,” Nikol Pashinyan noted.

The prime minister also rejected the idea of holding an immediate referendum on foreign policy, which Putin had previously proposed.

He believes that there is currently no objective need for such a step, as the country respects its obligations within the Eurasian Economic Union.

Pashinyan emphasized that his policy is transparent and contains no hidden “conspiracies” against strategic partners. Armenia strives to maintain a balanced course based on mutual recognition of the interests of all parties.

He assured that Yerevan has never intended to harm Russia’s interests, despite the inevitable transformation of bilateral relations. The prime minister described this process as a result of objective reality, not personal political preferences.

“We must work on these issues calmly, without tension and without further escalation,” the head of government urged.

He added that he values his working relationship with the Russian president, which is based on mutual trust and the ability to discuss sensitive topics in a respectful atmosphere.
