An Indian ship sank after being hit by a shell off the coast of Yemen
Off the coast of Yemen, the Indian cargo ship MSV Faize Noore Oliya capsized and sank after being hit by a shell. There were 14 crew members on board, and all of them were rescued.

According to Indian authorities, 12 of them were Indian citizens. All the sailors survived. They were rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard. The crew members were then taken to the port of Moha.
India Condemned the Attack
Indian authorities called the incident a provocative attack on a civilian vessel. “India strongly condemns this provocative attack on a defenseless motor-sailer. The safety of our citizens is our top priority,” Sonoval stated.
The minister also emphasized that India considers the safety of its citizens working in hazardous maritime areas to be of the utmost importance. “I am relieved to report that all 14 sailors, including 12 Indians, were safely rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard and taken to the port of Moha,” he added.
At the same time, it has not yet been reported who exactly attacked the vessel or for what reason. There is also no detailed information about the nature of the damage the vessel sustained after being hit by a projectile.
India Calls for Enhanced Safety for Seafarers
Following the incident, Sonoval instructed the Directorate General of Maritime Administration of India to take urgent measures to protect seafarers in the area. The agency is to step up efforts to ensure the safety of shipping in the region and provide the crew with the necessary assistance following their rescue.
The attack occurred in an area where significant risks to civilian shipping have persisted in recent years. Due to the security situation off the coast of Yemen, merchant ships may be at risk of attack. Although the vessel itself was lost, the most important outcome—the avoidance of human casualties—was achieved. All 14 crew members survived and were brought ashore. This was reported by India’s Minister of Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal.
Two of the four Indian sailors who were aboard the merchant ship attacked near Odesa are currently safe.
