Putin's ally Wagenknecht calls for the resignation of Germany's defense minister

In Germany, pro-Russian politician Sarah Wagenknecht has called on Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to resign amid controversy over new military service regulations.

This was reported by DW.

The issue concerns a regulation requiring men to report or obtain approval for their trips abroad. Wagenknecht criticized this decision, stating that it “reminisces of the GDR era and the Berlin Wall” and has nothing to do with democracy.

She believes that Pistorius should resign in light of this situation.

Representatives of other political parties also voiced criticism of the new approach. In particular, the Green Party called on the Ministry of Defense to provide urgent clarification, while the opposition Left Party called the law a failure.

The “Alternative for Germany” party advocated for a more pragmatic solution without excessive bureaucracy, while the CDU/CSU bloc proposed a compromise—introducing only a reporting requirement for travel instead of prior approval.

German politician Sarah Wagenknecht, known for her pro-Russian statements, announced her resignation as leader of her own party, the BSW (“Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance”).

German politician Sarah Wagenknecht expressed skepticism about the likelihood of a direct military clash between Russia and NATO.
